Dysregulated Eating: What's Modern Attachment Theory and Neuroscience Got to Do with It Anyway?

What the savvy group therapist needs to know about regulation for those with weight and eating concerns in the context of developmental trauma. Knowledge of cutting edge theory and neuroscience will be integrated with group psychotherapy; somatic and experiential techniques will be introduced. Experiential, Demonstration, Discussion.
Objectives
- Learn current science and thinking in the weight regulation field: a brief synopsis of the field.
- Translate and restate the language of overeating and overweight to terms of regulation and dysregulation.
- Develop fresh group strategies for the person with challenging weight regulation problems incorporating the somatics and experiential work.
- Recognize and address solutions to deveolopmental trauma.
- Create treatment strategies for affect regulation and dissociative self states.

NATIONAL ACADEMIES OF PRACTICE INDUCTS
Fran Weiss, LC5W-R, BCD, DCSW, CGPThe National Academies of Practice Is pleased to announce the election of Fran Weiss, LCSW-R, BCD, DCSW, CGP of New York, NY as a distinguished practitioner-member of the NAP. Ms. Weiss was installed at a gala membership banquet on March 26, 2011 in Arlington, virginia at which the National Academies of Practice Inducted new members from ten healthcare professions.
The National Academies of Practice was founded in 1981 in recognition of the need for interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare. It is comprised of distinguished practitioners and scholars from all of the primary health professions now Including ten disciplines: Dentistry, Nursing, Optometry, Osteopathic Medicine, Medicine, Psychology, Podlatrtc Medicine, SocIal Work. Veterinary Medicine, and Pharmacy. Only 150 distinguished members can be elected to membership, so selection is indeed an honor. Each year, the NAP sponsors a Forum on public policy issues. This year's meeting focused on achieving interdisciplinary care. The NAP will Issue a public policy statement on this topic shortly.
